Again, God has spoken
through prophets. Will
mankind listen this time?

"He who believes in Me and acts according to My teaching will harvest eternal life."
d - The question of Lazarus
Said Lazarus: "Yes, I, at least, have understood it. Frankly speaking, the whole history of mankind does not look too bright. Actually men are for the greater part not themselves responsible for being evil but rather the circumstances under which they were begot, born and brought up. Therefore, every judgment would seem to be an extremely arbitrary and tyrannical act on the part of the One Who has the might to judge men.
It is said that God furnishes every human being with the proper knowledge of what is true and what false and of what is good and what bad; but when does that happen? From my experience, this often happens only when a person has become so firmly set in all that is false and bad that a pure teaching can no longer help him. Once men have for several hundred years been without any noticeable divine influence, they must necessarily begin to forget God more and more.
Then they make their own laws and rules of life the strictest observance of which, however, cannot bring about their salvation. When, finally, mankind has turned quite brutish, revelations - only quite weak ones in the beginning - are given through awakened men. Only if they do not bear fruit, will stronger revelations follow. And if also these do not bring the required results, then there follows a judgment. Why things must be like that I do not understand at all, Lord.
From Adam until Noah, and especially with the descendants of Cain, there hasn‘t been any special revelation. At the time of Noah various signs and revelations did occur; but it was too late since the people, particularly those of the lowland, were already of the devil. The people ignored the revelations and continued in their evil ways, and then the judgment was already upon them.
There followed the long period until Abraham during which there were hardly any revelations. With Abraham the divine revelation began again, but it was promptly followed by the judgment over Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding ten cities.
From Abraham, Isaac and Jacob there were no further revelations until Moses. At the time of that prophet, great revelations from the heavens came to men. For the first time they were given definite laws by which they had to live; but also the judgment was considerable. Hundreds of thousands of Egyptians had to perish, and the liberated Israelites did not fare much better during a full 40 years in the desert. All of them, the Egyptians as well as the Israelites, had been without a special revelation for too long and kept getting increasingly indifferent. The former, more active faith turned into an indolent and traditional one which is not much better than none at all. And as is the faith, so is also the observance of its principles of life.
If the absence of revelations continues, men lose all belief in a true God, create their own gods that suit them and thereby get into complete idolatry. Would it then be reasonable to blame them for this? In my always most reasonable and human opinion certainly not.
At the time of the Judges and later also at the time of some of the Kings, prophets were always awakened among us Jews. But this happened only when men had already sinned themselves to perdition; and the judgment which destroyed the sinner followed immediately.
Now You, O Lord, have come Yourself. This is no doubt the greatest revelation for mankind, but we shall not have to wait long for the judgment. After a few hundred years men, unless they are given another revelation will not, even in Your teaching, be by a hair‘s breadth better than the templers down there! The converted heathens will revert to heathendom, and the Jews will become even more bigoted than they are now; and so things will never be really good on this earth and men will be lacking in a proper light.I think that from now on there should soon follow clear revelations of Your divinity, otherwise our descendants who cannot witness the present revelation will sink back into the previous bigotry through no fault of theirs.
The Philistines were destroyed and annihilated because of their ungodliness and, to the best of my knowledge, have never received a revelation. The same applies to the ancient Phoenicians, also the Trojans, the Babylonians, the Ninevites and other nations who, as far asI know, have also never received any particular revelation.
So why this unfavorable game with the men of this earth? Look, no one is responsible for being here! But once he is here by Your mighty will, he is also most unhappy from cradle to grave having to submit to one judgment after the other. Why is this so?" 77
