More about the Nature of God

Concerning the nature of that supreme vital power which manifests to us in nature, in our hearts and through the writings of the Revelation as First Cause of all being, the Bible - in accordance with many other sacred writings - teaches: God is a Spirit; He is eternal and infinite and possesses perfection in its fullness. - At the same time we learn through the Bible also that God is a man, for Moses said: "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him."

There appears to be a contradiction between these two statements, namely, that God is an eternal, infinite spirit, but at the same time a man also, since in the concept of the infinite spirit there is the aspect of boundlessness, whereas the concept man presupposes a spatial limitation.  Many Christians have pondered on this contradiction, but in vain.  Therefore, we must regard it as a great blessing that the Lorber texts give us extremely important explanations on this subject.

Infinite Spirit and Primordial God-Man.
In ‘The Household of God‘ (vol. 2/138-139) the Lord, in the person of the wanderer Abedam, teaches the ancient fathers with the following words addressed to the reflective Jared:

My beloved Jared, I know your concept of God.  You say: ‘God is absolutely infinite in His being.  Now I would like to hear from your heart how you can make sense of My visible person, similar to your own, considering your concept of My infinite being?  I am of the opinion that just as the finite, spatially limited will never fill infinite space, even if it should spread eternally in all directions, - it would be the case also the other way round. where and how should, the infinite spatial contract to a finite being?  Where and how should it begin, when it has no limits?  Since it is like that according to your notion, tell Me: How have I, the infinite God, become now a corporally and spatially limited God, visible to you and all the others?

According to your concept I cannot possibly be such; yet I am this according to your love and your faith.  Tell all of us how this can be explained!  Clarity in this point is of the utmost importance since an infinite being of God is practically unthinkable for all finite beings and, thus, as good as no God at all.  And a finite God excludes any divinity already with the notion of ‘finite‘.  So open your heart and explain this contradiction to us.”

Hearing this question, Jared and all the others were dumbfounded and doubts were beginning to arise in their hearts.  And after some consideration, Jared said: "Lord and Father in Your love and holiness!  Even the greatest and most enlightened Cherub will be quite as unable as I am to answer this question.  However, my measure for Your Deity is my own heart as it is incapable of loving anyone as it loves You.  Everything else is of no consequence to me. Let comprehend it whoever can how You, as an infinite God, can show Yourself to us finite worms as a man.  But I quite openly admit that I am able to truly love You only in this form.

For where should a finite heart draw the love from in order to love God in His infinite being?  Therefore You are in this form infinitely more lovable to me than in Your for me unimaginable divine infiniteness.  When I respect and love God, it is only in this form of Yours; for to a God who is infinite in His being I am as good as nonexistent and He is not a God at all for that which, compared to Him, is a complete nothingness.  Look, this is all I can say about it.  May it be pleasing to You !”

"Thereupon Abedam", it says in ‘The Household of God‘, “pressed Jared to His heart and said: ‘Jared, you have given Me a perfect answer; it is exactly as you have said.  Love alone is the measure for My Divinity, and I cannot be measured with anything else.  I am truly an infinite God.  However, as concerns My spatial infiniteness, this is only an appearance subject to time - in spirit it is the perfect might of My will, My love and My wisdom.  And the form My being has assumed is the same in which all of you have been made into images of My being.  You, My dear Jared, remain as you were and believe Me: No one will ever see Me in a different form from the one all of you are now seeing in the spirit!  Amen.‘

Amen.‘

Amen.‘

This explanation made many, including Jared, very happy.  Yet a few were still puzzled and pondered with all their might on the two aspects of God‘s being, namely, the infinite one and the one standing before them.

And Abedam rose again, called them over to Him and said: O you great fools, what nonsense are you thinking!  So that you may come out of your dreams I will give you a true light.  So listen:

‘That which you call the infinity of space is the spirit of my will which has from eternity created the endless spaces and filled them with all kinds of beings.  This spirit, however, has a centre, a formed being in which all the might of this infinite spirit is concentrated to a unified working.  This might-centre of the infinite being of God is love as the life of this spirit and this love am I from eternity.  Although the Spirit of God can work everywhere, it cannot present itself in a form without love.  Wherever God shows Himself to finite beings in a form, He manifests Himself through His love which is the actual fundamental essence of God and the rallying point for all might, power and holiness of His infinite Spirit.  Behold, that is God‘s true being, and it can only be comprehended with the heart, never with the intellect‘."

Thus, according to these sublime words, God is as perfect in the infinite expanse of the manifestation of His power as He is in the concentration of His might and His being in a centre-point.- boundlessly mighty in the infinitely greatest as in the infinitesimally small.

Where is God and what does He look like?
This was one of the questions his listeners asked Jesus (GGJ06:88).
And He replies: "I tell you that no one can see the actual Divine Being and live, - for It is infinite and thus also omnipresent and hence, as a pure spiritual, also the innermost of all things and beings, that is, in the effect of the light and power of Its will. Within and for Himself, however, God is a man like Me, and also you, and He dwells in an inaccessible light which in the world of spirit is called the Sun of Grace. This Sun of Grace, however, is not God Himself, but only the effect produced by His love and wisdom.

In the same way that you see the effect of the sun of this world, in that it is present everywhere through the outflow of its light in all directions, also the everywhere active power of the Sun of Grace is - as a light emanating from it - creatively and animatingly present in all beings.

He who knows how to catch and absorb plenty of light from the heavenly Sun of Grace into the heart of his soul and retain it there through his mighty love for God, creates within himself a Sun of Grace that is in everything quite similar to the original one; and the full possession of such a Sun of Grace then amounts to the possession of the only true mastery of life.

Only when in this way you have attained to the mastery of life yourself, will you fully realize the clarity and abundance of light of this truest of teachings, for now you are not yet able to completely grasp it, although you have quite well understood what was said."

Jesus: (Deml I, 77) “God’s elemental force has the power to roam freely without limits. It [this force] has surely the right to transform its splendor into the flesh in order to stand in front of that man(-kind) He had created,  as eternally perfect, visible and conceivable man [human being]. But the splendor of God does not and cannot possibly have the power to create out of itself other divinities. Because if it could it would have to create outside of the one infinite space several other equally infinite spaces…

“A second absolute God with complete infinite splendor is as unthinkable as a second infinite space. Thus you can clearly deduct that I, walking now as Son of Man in the flesh cannot be a second but only the one and same God who I was since eternity and will remain in all eternity…

“The one kingdom of the one God is able to exist only because God is its only King and Lord. It was written in the book of prophets who spoke from God: ‘God will give his splendor to nobody else’”.

The Lord: (Deml I, 78) “ As human being in the flesh among you I now am  the Son. And I was not conceived by anybody else than by myself. Thus I am my own Father since eternity. Where else would the Father be but in the Son and where else the Son but in the Father, thus one God – Son and Father – in one person! I am therefore God through and through. The Father is in me and the power coming from My almighty will according to my love-wisdom who fills the eternal endless space is the Holy Spirit.”

Imagine for a moment sitting with these other disciples around a table listening to rabbi Jesus speaking like this. He sits in front of you, looks like any good looking young man of 33, just like that. He eats and drinks with you, patiently answers all those questions again and again until everybody understands. And yet with one snap he could create for a couple of moments a second sun, an earth model the size of a hot air balloon floating before your eyes (which he once did explaining its shape, the continents and all) or the twin towers (which he would perhaps not).

I’m sorry but I, your editor, would simply faint. They might have also. In the beginning. Seeing before them the Almighty who so far was only visible in a cloud (to Moses) a column of fire (in the desert) or as a burning bush.

At another occasion Jesus says: (Deml I, pg.78) “Scripture of the prophets explains that I, Jesus Christ, also called Son of Man, would be the real God although God is called with different names like Father, Son and Spirit. God is just one personal splendour in the perfect form of a human being. But as with man the soul the body and the innermost spirit are united in a way that they result in just one being or somehow just one specificity (individuality), while being among themselves discernable, in the same way united are Father Son and Spirit.” (GGJ 8:25).

In vol.4 of the Great Gospel of John the Lord shows that even during  Jesus’ time future disputes were anticipated among His disciples. In the presence of Jesus the apostles sitting around a table are having a vivid discussion. (GGJ 4:88, 1-11)
